Addition of KAYU-TV (FOX)
|
|
Pursuant to Public Notice CRTC 1994-68 dated 10 June 1994, the Commission approves the applications by the licensees of the cable distribution undertakings listed in the appendix to this decision, for authority to add, at their option, the distribution of KAYU-TV (FOX) Spokane, Washington on a discretionary tier.

This approval is consistent with the modification to the Commission's policy governing the cable carriage of U.S. network signals announced in Public Notice CRTC 1994-107 of today's date.

The Commission notes that Shaw Cablesystems (B.C.) Ltd. has withdrawn its application (940424500) for authority to add the distribution of KAYU-TV to the cable distribution undertaking serving Kelowna, British Columbia, since it has confirmed that this signal is received off-air. Accordingly, no further action is required with respect to that application.

In addition, pursuant to Public Notice CRTC 1994-68-1 dated 30 June 1994, the Commission denies the application by Campbell River T.V. Association (940179500) for authority to add the distribution of KCPQ-TV (FOX) Tacoma, Washington, as part of the basic service of the cable distribution undertaking serving Campbell River, British Columbia. However, the licensee is authorized, at its option, to add the distribution of KCPQ-TV on a discretionary tier.

The Commission reminds all licensees that, before adding the distribution of the signal of a FOX affiliate, they are first required to ensure that they will have the necessary channel capacity to distribute the services of the new pay and specialty television undertakings licensed in June 1994.

The Commission acknowledges the interventions in support of and in opposition to these applications submitted by individuals, members of the cable industry and members of the broadcasting industry. The various issues raised in the opposing interventions have been dealt with in Public Notice CRTC 1994-107.
