Decision

Ottawa, 8 September 1993
Decision CRTC 93-587
Radio Nord Inc.
Amos/Val-d'Or, Quebec - 921376000
Addition of a transmitter
Pursuant to Public Notice CRTC 1993-72 dated 31 May 1993, the Commission approves the application to amend the broadcasting licence for the radio programming undertaking CHOA-FM Rouyn-Noranda (the originating station), by authorizing the licensee to add a transmitter at Val-d'Or, operating on the frequency 96.5 MHz (channel 243), with an effective radiated power of 50 watts, to broadcast the programming of CHOA-FM Rouyn-Noranda received via the existing transmitter, CHOA-FM-1 Amos/Val-d'Or.
By utilizing the same channel as CHOA-FM, the licensee stated that the addition of a second transmitter will solve major reception problems experienced in some areas of Val- d'Or. The Department of Communications has confirmed that this appears to be the best way to remedy the situation.
This approval is subject to the requirement that construction of the transmitting facilities be completed and that they be in operation within twelve months of the date of this decision or, where the licensee applies to the Commission and satisfies the Commission that it cannot complete implementation before the expiry of this period and that an extension is in the public interest, within such further periods of time as may be approved in writing by the Commission. Should the Commission refuse to approve an extension of time requested by the licensee, the authority granted shall lapse and become null and void upon the termination of the last approved extension period.
The Commission notes the intervention in opposition to this application submitted by Radiomutuel Inc., and is satisfied with the licensee's response to this intervention.
Allan J. Darling
Secretary General
