Naicatchewenin Indian Reserve 17-A, Ontario - 913032900

Following a Public Hearing in Toronto beginning on 19 May 1992, the Commission approves the application for a broadcasting licence for an English- and Native-language FM radio programming undertaking at Naicatchewenin Indian Reserve 17-A, on the frequency 90.1 MHz, channel 211, with an effective radiated power of 10 watts.

Pursuant to Public Notice CRTC 1990-89 dated 20 September 1990 entitled Native Broadcasting Policy, the Commission will issue a licence for a Type A FM native radio station. This licence will expire on 31 March 1999, and will be subject to the conditions specified in the licence to be issued.

The Commission notes that the station will broadcast 35 hours per week of local programming, of which 17 hours 30 minutes (50%) will be in Ojibway and 17 hours 30 minutes (50%) will be in English. In addition, the station will rebroadcast network programming received from the Wawatay Communications Society, originating from Sioux Lookout, Ontario.

The Commission acknowledges the intervention by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation regarding this application and is satisfied with the applicant's reply thereto.
