Constance Lake First Nations Community Radio Station

Following a Public Hearing in Toronto beginning on 19 May 1992, the Commission approves the application for a broadcasting licence for an English- and Native-language FM radio programming undertaking at Constance Lake, on the frequency 89.9 MHz, channel 210, with an effective radiated power of 10 watts.
Pursuant to Public Notice CRTC 1990-89 dated 20 September 1990 entitled Native Broadcasting Policy, the Commission will issue a licence for a Type A FM native radio station. This licence will expire on 31 March 1999, and will be subject to the conditions specified in the licence to be issued.
The Commission notes that the station will broadcast 40 hours per week of local programming, of which 30 hours (75%) will be in the Coastal Cree language and 10 hours (25%) will be in English. In addition, the station will rebroadcast network programming received from the Wawatay Communications Society, originating from Sioux Lookout, Ontario.
The Department of Communications (DOC) has advised the Commission that this application is conditionally technically acceptable, and that a Broadcasting Certificate will only be issued once it has been determined that the transmitter's proposed technical parameters will not create any unacceptable interference with aeronautical NAV/COM services. In accordance with subsection 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, the Commission will only issue the licence, and the authority granted herein may only be implemented, at such time as written notification is received from the DOC that its technical requirements have been met, and that a Broadcasting Certificate will be issued.
