Following a Public Hearing in the National Capital Region on 22 November 1988, the Commission approves the application for a licence for an FM radio broadcasting transmitting undertaking at Elliot Lake on the frequency 90.3 MHz, channel 212A, with an effective radiated power of 103 watts to rebroadcast the programs of the CBC English-language AM radio network originating from CBCS-FM Sudbury.
The Commission will issue a licence expiring 31 August 1992, subject to the conditions specified in the licence to be issued.
The Commission notes that the use of this frequency conforms with the guidelines set out in Public Notice CRTC 1985-142 dated 9 July 1985. The CBC has indicated that it intends to shut down CBEC Elliot Lake, which currently broadcasts the programs of the CBC English-language AM radio network service, within twelve months of the date on which the new transmitter becomes operational. The Commission expects the CBC to cease the operation of CBEC within this time-frame and to inform listeners of the changes herein approved.
