Decision

Ottawa, 3 July 1985
Decision CRTC 85-504
Central Alberta Broadcasting Ltd.
Red Deer, Alberta - 833147200
Pursuant to Public Notice CRTC 1985-63 dated 25 March 1985, the Commission approves the application to amend the broadcasting licence for CKRD Red Deer by changing the frequency from 850 kHz to 700 kHz; increasing the power from 10,000 watts to 50,000 watts (day-time) and from 1,000 watts to 25,000 watts (night-time); and relocating the transmitter from Penhold to a site near Innisfail, Alberta.
In accordance with paragraph 22(1)(b) of the Broadcasting Act, the Commission will only issue the licence amendment, and the authority granted herein may only be implemented, at such time as written notification is received from the Department of Communications that it will issue an amendment to the Technical Construction and Operating Certificate.
The authorized frequency of 700 kHz became available for assignment in Red Deer and Calgary as a result of the new Canada/United States of America Bilateral Agreement for AM Broadcasting.
The changes in technical parameters will result in improved day-time coverage in Central Alberta, and provide a reliable night-time signal, particularly to the south of Red Deer where the signal is presently non-existent at night.
Fernand Bélisle Secretary General
