Following a Public Hearing in Hull, Quebec on 5 June 1984, the Commission approves the application for a broadcasting licence for an English-language FM radio station at Kirkland Lake on the frequency 90.3 MHz, channel 212A, with an effective radiated power of 2,650 watts to rebroadcast the programs of the CBC English-language AM Radio Network service, received from CBCS-FM Sudbury, Ontario.
The Commission will issue a licence expiring 30 September 1987, subject to the conditions of licence specified in the licence to be issued.
In Public Notice CRTC 1983-22 concerning the Long Range Radio Plan of the CBC, the Commission determined that, wherever possible if suitable AM frequencies are available, the CBC basic service should be provided on the AM band. Before submitting this application, the CBC investigated the feasibility of using an AM frequency but found that no suitable AM frequencies are available. Under the circumstances of this case, the Commission is satisfied that the use of the FM frequency is warranted.
