Decision CRTC 2001-605
Ottawa, 25 September 2001
Mr. Parke Davis
Dear Mr. Davis:
Re: Canadian Numbering Administration Consortium - Application to transfer administrative responsibilities to the Canadian Numbering
On 29 June 2001, Canadian Numbering Administration Consortium filed an application requesting that the Commission approve the transfer of administrative responsibilities for International Mobile Station Identifiers (IMSIs) and Systems Identifier Codes (SIDs) from Industry Canada to the Canadian Numbering Administrator. Industry Canada acknowledged that regulatory responsibility for these aspects of the Canadian numbering system properly resides with the Commission and, further, that a speedy transfer of administrative responsibilities to the CNA would pose no difficulties.
On 23 July 2001, in response to a Commission staff inquiry, Mr. Pilley, Program Manager, CNA at SAIC Canada inc. confirmed the CNA's willingness to assume administrative responsibility for the assignment of IMSIs and SIDs, at no additional charge to the industry.
The Commission accepts the transfer of responsibilities to the Commission under Section 46.2 of the Telecommunications Act. The Commission assigns the administrative responsibilities associated with IMSIs and SIDs to be included in the CNA's functions within 30 days from the date of this decision. The CNA will assign these resources as described in the applicable guidelines until such time as the Commission has received, reviewed and approved new versions of these guidelines.
