Telecom Order CRTC 99-570

Ottawa, 23 June 1999

On 1 June 1999, the Société d’administration des tarifs d’accès des télécommunicateurs filed, on behalf of La Corporation de Téléphone de La Baie (1993), an application for approval of tariff revisions to: (a) increase individual-line residential and business rates to $19.85 and $39.95 respectively; (b) introduce new Extended Area Service links in accordance with the Natural Calling Centre/EAS criteria; and (c) incorporate Touch-Tone rate into basic service rate.

File No.: Tariff Notice 11

1. The proposed rate changes are filed pursuant to Review of Contribution Regime of Independent Telephone Companies in Ontario and Quebec, Telecom Decision CRTC 99-5, 21 April 1999 (Decision 99-5).

2. In Decision 99-5, the Commission directed independent telephone companies in Ontario and Quebec with residential and business rates below $19.85 and $45.45, respectively, to increase their rates to those levels, effective 1 July 1999, unless they could demonstrate that a particular rate was compensatory.

3. The Commission notes that the company has provided evidence indicating that the proposed $39.95 business service rate is compensatory.

4. The Commission is satisfied, for the purposes of this proceeding, with the evidence provided by the company.

5. In light of the foregoing, the Commission approves Tariff Notice 11, effective 1 July 1999.
