Following a Public Hearing in Vancouver on 8 July 1986, the Commission approves the application for a broadcasting licence for an English-language FM radio station at Creston on the frequency 100.3 MHz, channel 262B, with an effective radiated power of 57 watts to rebroadcast the programs of CBU Vancouver.
The Commission will issue a licence expiring 30 September 1988, subject to the conditions specified in the licence to be issued. This term will enable the Commission to consider the renewal of this licence at the same time as that of CBU Vancouver.
The Commission notes that the use of this FM frequency conforms to the guidelines set out in Public Notices CRTC 1985-86 and 1985-142 dated 2 May and 9 July respectively, and it is satisfied that the replacement of a low-power unprotected AM station with FM facilities will result in an extension of the CBC AM network service to a significantly greater population in this area.
The CBC has indicated that it intends to cease the operation of CBRM, a low-power AM station which currently rebroadcasts CBU Vancouver at Creston, once the new FM transmitter becomes operational. The Commission expects the CBC to cease operation of CBRM within this time frame.
