Video Transcript: National DNCL

Do you receive unwanted telemarketing calls?

The CRTC enforces the National Do Not Call List Rules, but just registering doesn’t stop all calls.

Certain types of calls are allowed, including calls from: newspapers selling subscriptions, political parties or their candidates giving information, registered charities, survey companies collecting information, and companies with whom you have an existing business relationship.

If you do not wish to receive their calls, simply ask to be placed on their internal do not call lists. They are all required to have them, except survey companies.

If you still receive unwanted telemarketing calls, record the time, date, name and phone number, as well as details about the conversation. Individual offenders risk penalties of up to $1,500 and $15,000 for corporations. Per violation.

To register a complaint, visit dncl.gc.ca. More information is available online, or by calling 1-866-580-DNCL.
