CBYK-FM Kamloops and its transmitter CBTF-FM Falkland –Technical changes

  1. The Commission approves the application by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) to change the authorized contours of CBTF-FM Falkland, British Columbia, a rebroadcasting transmitter of the English-language radio programming undertaking CBYK-FM Kamloops, British Columbia (Radio One), by changing the class from B to B1, replacing the existing directional antenna with a new non-directional antenna, increasing the maximum effective radiated power (ERP) from 217 to 272 watts, increasing the average ERP from 64 to 272 watts, and increasing the effective height of the antenna above average terrain from 706 to 714 metres. The Commission did not receive any interventions in regard to this application.
  2. The licensee stated that the requested technical changes will allow for the replacement of a timeworn transmitter while maintaining excellent coverage of the Radio One service in the Falkland region.
  3. Pursuant to section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, this authority will only be effective when the Department of Industry notifies the Commission that its technical requirements have been met and that a broadcasting certificate will be issued.
  4. The licensee must implement the technical changes by no later than 25 July 2020. To request an extension, the licensee must submit a written request to the Commission at least 60 days before that date, using the form available on the Commission’s website.
