Application 2017-0092-2

CBL-FM Toronto and its transmitter CBL-FM-3 Orillia – Technical changes

  1. The Commission approves the application by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) to change the authorized contours of CBL-FM-3 Orillia, a rebroadcasting transmitter of the English-language radio station CBL-FM Toronto (Radio Two), by increasing the effective radiated power from 4,800 to 5,500 watts and decreasing the effective height of the antenna above average terrain from 169.3 to 148.1 metres. The Commission did not receive any interventions regarding this application.
  2. The CBC stated that the changes would allow it to combine the Radio Two service with its Radio One service CBCO-FM Orillia on a single antenna and would maintain coverage in the Orillia region and its vicinity.
  3. The Commission reminds the licensee that pursuant to section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, this authority will only be effective when the Department of Industry notifies the Commission that its technical requirements have been met and that a broadcasting certificate will be issued.
  4. The transmitter must be operational with implemented technical changes at the earliest possible date and in any event no later than 24 months from the date of this decision, unless a request for an extension of time is approved by the Commission before 26 May 2019. In order to ensure that such a request is processed in a timely manner, it should be submitted in writing at least 60 days before that date.
