MP TV – Licence amendment
1. The Commission approves the application by Channel 1 Film & TV Production Inc. to amend the broadcasting licence for MP TV, formerly categorized as a regional, general interest, third-language ethnic specialty category B service, by modifying condition of licence 2 to indicate that it is a national service. The Commission did not receive any interventions in connection with this application.
2. The licensee indicated that it requested that MP TV be recategorized as a national service given that the South Asian community is more diversified nationally. The licensee also indicated that MP TV could generate more revenue by being distributed on a national basis.
3. Consequently, the Commission replaces condition of licence 2 with the following:
The licensee shall provide a national, general interest, third-language, ethnic specialty Category B service that will offer a broad range of programming on Punjabi culture, cultural programs and dance music. It will also include news and analysis, music videos in Hindi, Punjabi and English, concerts, entertainment reports, artist interviews, movies, dramas and documentaries on artists. Some of the programming will also be in the Urdu language.
