Communications CHIC (C.H.I.C.)
Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec

Application 2010-0770-9, received 4 May 2010

CHIC-FM Rouyn-Noranda – Technical change

1.      The Commission approves the application by Communications CHIC (C.H.I.C.) to change the authorized contours of the French-language specialty commercial radio programming undertaking CHIC-FM Rouyn-Noranda by increasing the effective radiated power from 300 watts to 3,400 watts (non-directional antenna with an increase in the effective height of antenna above average terrain from 35 metres to 103.3 metres). All other technical parameters will remain unchanged. The Commission did not receive any interventions in relation to this application.

2.      The licensee states that this increase is necessary to enable listeners to receive the signal without interference in homes and buildings located within the authorized 3 mV/m contour.

3.      The Department of Industry (the Department) has advised the Commission that, while this application is conditionally technically acceptable, it will only issue a broadcasting certificate when it has determined that the proposed technical parameters will not create any unacceptable interference with aeronautical NAV/COM services.

4.      The Commission reminds the licensee that pursuant to section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, this authority will only be effective when the Department notifies the Commission that its technical requirements have been met and that a broadcasting certificate will be issued.
