Broadcasting Decision CRTC 2007-94

  Ottawa, 21 March 2007

  Application 2007-0060-1
Broadcasting Public Notice CRTC 2007-11

Classic Rock FM radio station in Grande Prairie - Technical change

1. The Commission approves the application by Bear Creek Broadcasting Ltd. (Bear Creek) to amend the broadcasting licence for the radio programming undertaking authorized in Classic Rock/Classic Hits FM radio station in Grande Prairie, Broadcasting Decision CRTC 2006-621, 15 November 2006, in order to change the frequency from 103.3 MHz (channel 277C1) to 98.9 MHz (channel 255C1). The Commission also approves the application to change the authorized contours of the station, by increasing the antenna height and by relocating the transmitter.
2. The licensee indicated that the originally authorized transmitter site owned by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation is old, and there is a question as to whether it can withstand the addition of a new antenna. Bear Creek has therefore entered into an agreement with Jim Pattison Broadcast Group (Pattison) to use Pattison's transmission tower.
3. The Commission notes that the proposed change will not result in any significant change to the authorized contours of the station.
4. The Commission did not receive any interventions in connection with this application.
5. The Commission reminds the licensee that, pursuant to section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, this authority will only be effective when the Department notifies the Commission that its technical requirements have been met, and that a broadcasting certificate will be issued.
