Call for comments on a request by the Canadian Cable Telecommunications Association to repeal section 22 of the Broadcasting Distribution Regulations

1.

In Call for comments on a request by the Canadian Cable Telecommunications Association to repeal section 22 of the Broadcasting Distribution Regulations, Broadcasting Public Notice CRTC 2005-74, 25 July 2005 (Public Notice 2005-74), the Commission requested comments on a proposal by the Canadian Cable Telecommunications Association (CCTA) to repeal section 22 of the Broadcasting Distribution Regulations (the Regulations). This section of the Regulations sets out the requirements of Class 1 and Class 2 broadcasting distribution undertakings with respect to the distribution of local radio stations.

2.

The Commission received a number of submissions in response to Public Notice 2005-74, some of which proposed alternative measures that the Commission might undertake in lieu of repealing section 22. In a 31 August 2005 letter to the Commission, the CCTA requested the opportunity to reply to the comments received by the Commission. The CCTA stated that it wished to address the alternative measures proposed by interested parties as well as the accuracy and validity of arguments made in opposition to its request.

3.

The Commission wishes to ensure that all parties have the opportunity to address the issues raised by interested parties in this proceeding. Accordingly, the Commission invites comments on the submissions received in response to Public Notice 2005-74. The Commission will accept the comments that it receives on or before 24 October 2005.
