Telecom Decision CRTC 2005-37

  Ottawa, 21 June 2005

Revised relief implementation plan for area codes 613 and 819

  Reference: 8698-C12-16/01

1.

In Relief plan for area codes 613 and 819, Telecom Decision CRTC 2004-55, 18 August 2004 (Decision 2004-55), the Commission directed the Relief Planning Committee (the RPC) to file, by 15 September 2004, a revised Relief Implementation Plan (RIP) for area codes 613 and 819, which would include a standard announcement text to be used by all telecommunications service providers during the permissive 10-digit local dialing period and a standard announcement text to be used during the mandatory 10-digit dialing period.

2.

On 15 September 2004, pursuant to Decision 2004-55, the RPC developed and filed a revised RIP with the Commission which included the standard announcement texts.

3.

On 1 December 2004, the RPC filed a further revised RIP with the Commission, which modified the relief implementation schedule for area codes 613 and 819 to synchronize the customer awareness program activities with those of area codes 514 and 519. The RPC indicated that the proposed scheduling changes would have no impact on the phasing-in date of either permissive 10-digit dialing or mandatory 10-digit local dialing contained in Decision 2004-55.

4.

The Commission has reviewed both revised versions of the RIP dated 15 September 2004 and 1 December 2004. The Commission considers that the revised standardized network announcements will minimize any customer confusion. The Commission is of the view that the proposed scheduling changes to the customer awareness program activities are appropriate based on the information available at this time. The Commission considers that synchronizing the customer awareness program activities for area codes 613 and 819 with those of area codes 514 and 519, will further minimize customer confusion.

5.

Accordingly, the Commission approves the revised relief implementation plan for area codes 613 and 819.
