CBXT Edmonton - New transmitters in Coronation and Red Deer

1.

The Commission approves the application by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) to amend the broadcasting licence for the television programming undertaking CBXT Edmonton in order to operate a transmitter in Coronation and a transmitter in Red Deer, Alberta.

2.

The licensee will broadcast the programming of CBXT on the transmitters providing the CBC English-language television network and regional service to the above-noted localities.

3.

The new transmitters will operate on channel 13 with an average effective radiated power of 80,600 watts, and on channel 22C with an average effective radiated power of 417,500 watts, in Coronation and Red Deer, respectively.

4.

The Commission received interventions in support of this application.
5. The CBC has not implemented and has indicated that it will not implement the transmitters approved in CBXT Edmonton - New transmitters in Coronation and Red Deer, Broadcasting Decision CRTC 2004-100, 26 February 2004. Instead, the CBC applied to operate transmitters in Coronation and Red Deer by way of the authority requested in the present decision.
6. The Commission reminds the licensee that, pursuant to section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, this authority will only be effective when the Department of Industry notifies the Commission that its technical requirements have been met, and that a broadcasting certificate will be issued.
7. The transmitters must be operational at the earliest possible date and in any event no later than 24 months from the date of this decision, unless a request for an extension of time is approved by the Commission before 7 March 2007. In order to ensure that such a request is processed in a timely manner, it should be submitted in writing at least 60 days before this date
