Telecom Order CRTC 2004-12

  Ottawa, 8 January 2004

Northwestel Inc.

  Reference: Tariff Notice 801

Voice grade channels

1.

The Commission received an application by Northwestel Inc. (Northwestel), dated 21 November 2003, to revise General Tariff items related to mileage charges in order to:

  • incorporate items 704, Extension Line Mileage; 706, Tie Trunk Service; and 707, Private Line Telephone Service, into item 701, Voice Channel Mileage, as these items are all dedicated voice applications that customers may use on the company's voice grade channels;

  • increase the monthly charge for the first quarter mile or remaining fraction mile for channels between buildings in the same exchange and on the same continuous or different properties of the customer from $20.00 to $23.00; and

  • increase the monthly charge for each additional quarter mile or remaining fraction mile for channels between buildings in the same exchange and on the same continuous or different properties of the customer from $5.70 to $6.55.

2.

Northwestel submitted that the proposed rate increases were required to bring these rates to the same level as those of voice grade channels in the Private Wire Services Tariff item 202, which were approved by the Commission in Voice grade channels, Telecom Order CRTC 2003-92, 27 February 2003.

3.

The Commission received no comments with respect to the application.

4.

The Commission approves Northwestel's application. The revisions take effect as of 31 January 2004.
