CFNY-DR-1 Brampton and CJAQ-DR-1 Toronto - Technical changes

1.

The Commission approves the applications by Corus Radio Company and Rogers Broadcasting Limited to amend the broadcasting licences for the transitional digital radio programming undertakings CFNY-DR-1 Brampton and CJAQ-DR-1 Toronto, respectively, in order to change the frequency for CFNY-DR-1 from 1456.304 MHz (channel 3) (ON113) to 1465.024 MHz (channel 8) (ON115), and to change the frequency for CJAQ-DR-1 Toronto from 1465.024 MHz (channel 8) (ON115) to 1456.304 MHz (channel 3) (ON113).

2.

The licensees stated that the licence amendments will allow them to consolidate these transitional digital radio stations into a single digital radio broadcasting (DRB) multiplex. Further, the licensees submitted that the proposed amendments would not engender other technical implications because the current and prospective maximum service areas for Toronto DRB channels 3 and 8 are identical.

3.

The Commission did not receive any interventions in connection with these applications.

4.

The Commission reminds the licensees that, pursuant to section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, this authority will only be effective when the Department of Industry notifies the Commission that its technical requirements have been met, and that broadcasting certificates will be issued.

  Footnote:
1 Broadcasting Public Notice CRTC 2004-30 incorrectly indicated the location for CFNY‑DR‑1 as Toronto. The Commission confirms that CFNY‑DR‑1 is located in Brampton. Further, the existing frequencies and the proposed frequencies for CFNY‑DR-1 Brampton and CJAQ‑DR-1 Toronto were inadvertently reversed.
