Telecom Order CRTC 2003-512

  Ottawa, 17 December 2003

Bell Canada

  Reference: Tariff Notice 6779

Inter-exchange distance charges

1.

The Commission received an application by Bell Canada, dated 10 November 2003, to revise General Tariff items 950, Local Channels, 3750, Monthly Distance Charges or Rentals for Inter-exchange Channels and the Associated Local Channels, and 4660, Channels for Data Transmission, in order to withdraw Schedule 1 and 2 Channels and to destandardize Schedule 3 Channels.

2.

Bell Canada submitted that Schedule 1, 2 and 3 Channels are teletype-grade channels having a maximum throughput of 75 baud.

3.

Bell Canada further submitted that there are currently no customers using Schedule 1 and 2 Channels and that the Company does not expect any demand for this service as other alternatives are available.

4.

In addition, Bell Canada noted that Schedule 3 Channels are not the growth service of choice for customers, due to the low throughput, limited network scalability and limited support by manufacturers.

5.

The Commission received no comments with respect to the application.

6.

The Commission approves Bell Canada's application. The revisions take effect as of 1 January 2004.
