Telecom Order CRTC 2003-456

  Ottawa, 10 November 2003

Northwestel Inc.

  Reference: Tariff Notice 797

Extended area service

1.

The Commission received an application by Northwestel Inc. (Northwestel), dated 3 October 2003, to revise General Tariff item 202, Primary Exchange Services, in order to introduce extended area service (EAS) which provides for the extension of the local calling area of an exchange area to include one or more additional exchange areas.

2.

Northwestel submitted that this arrangement provides for the placing of telephone calls between these exchange areas at a flat monthly rate in lieu of the Message Toll charges that would otherwise be applied.

3.

The Commission received no comments with respect to the application.

4.

The Commission notes that Northwestel's proposed EAS criteria are the same as those approved for Bell Canada.

5.

The Commission approves Northwestel's application. The revisions take effect as of 10 November 2003.
