Telecom Order CRTC 2002-419

Ottawa, 6 November 2002

TELUS Communications Inc.

Reference: Tariff Notice 498

Private computer network dial-up access service

1.

The Commission received an application by TELUS Communications Inc. (TCI), dated 16 September 2002, to withdraw item 6230, Private Computer Network Dial-up Access (PCNDA) Service, from the former TELUS Communications (Edmonton) Inc. (the former TCEI) Special Assembly Tariff.

2.

In Telecom Order CRTC 97-928 (Order 97-928), 30 June 1997, the Commission forbore the former TCEI's Internet access service called PLAnet service, pursuant to section 34 of the Telecommunications Act.

3.

TCI noted that the PCNDA service is a special arrangement to provide dial-up Internet access to the University of Alberta local area network for registered users of the University of Alberta computing systems. TCI submitted that, as a result of an oversight, it had failed to withdraw the tariff pages for PCNDA service following the Commission's decision to forbear from regulating this service in Order 97-928.

4.

The Commission received no comments with respect to the application.

5.

The Commission approves TCI's application. The revisions take effect as of the date of this order.
