Aliant Telecom Inc.
Reference: Tariff notices 17 and 17A

Standard service charges

1.

The Commission received an application by Aliant Telecom Inc. (Aliant Telecom), dated 19 April 2002 and amended on 10 June 2002, to migrate the following tariff items to Aliant Telecom General Tariff item 255, Standard Service Charges:

- NBTel Inc. General Tariff item 110;

- NewTel Communications Inc. General Tariff items 70 and 80;

- Maritime Tel & Tel Limited General Tariff items 500, 510, 511, 520, 540; and

- Island Telecom Inc. General Tariff items 350, 360, 361, 365 and 375.

As part of the transfer, Aliant Telecom proposed to introduce a new service description and to align the rate structure across its operating territory. To help simplify and improve customers' understanding of service charges, the company proposed to replace the existing multi-element service charges with five new elements, as follows:

- work without a premise visit;

- work with a premise visit;

- incremental line charge;

- record change charge; and

- Centrex programming charge.

The proposed rates are based on the current service charge components. Aliant Telecom noted that its customers would not experience any rate increase as a result of the rate restructure.

The Commission received no comments with respect to the application.

5.

The Commission approves Aliant Telecom's application. The revisions take effect as of the date of this order.
