Decision CRTC 2001-619

Ottawa, 2 October 2001

La radio communautaire inter-génération, jardin du Québec
Saint-Rémi, Quebec 2001-0001-0

Application processed by
Public Notice CRTC 2001-80
dated 12 July 2001

Increase in power for CHOC-FM

1.

The Commission approves the application to amend the broadcasting licence for CHOC-FM Saint-Rémi, by increasing the effective radiated power from 0.8 watt to 200 watts.

2.

The licensee has indicated that this increase in power will allow it to provide better service within its existing coverage area and overcome interference caused by CFXM Granby and CJGO Lachute.

3.

The Commission notes that the power increase will result in a change of CHOC-FM's status from a low power unprotected service to a regular Class « A1 » FM station.

4.

The Commission has examined the opposing interventions filed by La Radio Communautaire de Châteauguay Inc., licensee of CHAI-FM Châteauguay, and by Métromédia CMR Montréal and Diffusion Métromédia CMR Inc., licensees of CKOI-FM Verdun, CKOO-FM Longueuil, CFQR-FM Montréal, CINF Verdun, CINW Montréal and CIME-FM Saint-Jérôme. The Commission is satisfied with the licensee's response to these interventions.

5.

The Department of Industry has advised the Commission that this application is conditionally technically acceptable. The Department will only issue a broadcasting certificate once it has determined that the proposed technical parameters will not create any unacceptable interference with aeronautical NAV/COM services.

6.

In accordance with section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, the above-mentioned amendment will only be valid when the Department of Industry certifies to the Commission that its technical requirements have been met and that a broadcasting certificate has been or will be issued.
