Decision CRTC 2001-350

Ottawa, 15 June 2001

Société de Communication Attikamekw-Montagnais inc.
Wendake, Quebec 2000-0641-2

Application processed by Public Notice CRTC 2000-105 dated 17 July 2000

Licence renewal for the native radio network at Wendake

1.

The Commission renews the broadcasting licence for the Montagnais- and Attikamek-language FM radio network operated by the Société de Communication Attikamekw-Montagnais inc., from 1 September 2001 to 31 August 2008, subject to the conditions specified in this decision and in the licence to be issued.

2.

The licensee applied to renew its licence under the same terms and conditions as its current licence.

3.

Decision CRTC 94-475 indicated that this network broadcasts 27 hours and 30 minutes of programming per week of which 15 hours are in the Montagnais-language and 12 hours 30 minutes are in Attikamek.

4.

The renewal of this licence reflects Public Notice CRTC 2001-70 also released today. As indicated in the notice, the Commission no longer imposes limits on the advertising broadcast by native radio stations and networks. However, it requires that they broadcast a Canadian content level of at least 35% in popular (category 2) music. Consequently, it is a condition of licence that the licensee devote a minimum of 35% of all Category 2 musical selections broadcast each broadcast week to Canadian selections.
