Order CRTC 2000-111

Ottawa, 10 February 2000
In Tariff Notice 180 dated 3 December 1999, TELUS Communications Inc. (TCI) proposed tariff revisions to introduce the Megalink Contract Signing Bonus Promotion from 1 February 2000 to 31 July 2000.
File No.: Tariff Notice 180

1.

The promotion offers customers who sign a contract for a three or five-year term with the company, a bonus in the form of a credit on their bill. The credit amount will be based on the length of the contract term.

2.

The Commission notes that the company had received approval for two promotions for Megalink service during the last 12 months. In Telecom Order CRTC 99-417 (Order 99-417), a promotion was approved from 4 May 1999 to 1 November 1999. In Telecom Order CRTC 99-1140 (Order 99-1140), an extension was approved from 16 December 1999 to 30 April 2000.

3.

The Commission is of the view that short-term promotions for any particular service, whether on a standalone basis or in combination with related promotions, and whether overlapping or continuing, should not exceed a total period of 12 months. Thus, the total promotional periods approved under Order 99-417 and Order 99-1140, and the proposed promotion under Tariff Notice 180 should not exceed 12 months.

4.

TCI Tariff Notice 180 is approved for the period from 15 February 2000 to 30 June 2000.
