Northwestel Inc. (Northwestel) has filed proposed tariff revisions under Tariff Notice 687, dated 19 November 1998, regarding its Sympatico High Speed Market Trial. The company proposes to modify service pricing, allow business customers to subscribe to the service, and extend the duration of the trial by one year to 8 January 2000. |

1.The Commission is of the view that the total period proposed for the market trial is quite long. The Commission is also of the view that should competitors wish to conduct similar trials or offer business or residential High Speed Internet Access service in Northwestel territory, they should be allowed to do so. |

2.In view of the foregoing, Tariff Notice 687 is approved, with the following changes. The proposed extension is to terminate on 8 October 1999. The company is also required, in the event that a competitor proposes to provide business or residential High Speed Internet Access service or conduct a trial, to provide underlying facilities for the service and to file the tariffs accordingly. |
