Decision

Ottawa, 5 October 1999
Decision CRTC 99-456
Canadian Satellite Communications Inc.
Across Canada -- 199906872
Application processed by
Public Notice CRTC 1999-128
dated 5 August 1999
Change of affiliation for KIRO-TV Seattle and KSTW Tacoma/Seattle
1. The Commission approves the application by Canadian Satellite Communications Inc. (Cancom), to amend the broadcasting licence for the national satellite relay distribution undertaking (SRDU), by changing the affiliation of two of the signals that Cancom is authorized to distribute.
2. As a result of a reorganization, two U.S. stations that Cancom is authorized to distribute have changed affiliations. KIRO-TV Seattle, formerly listed as an independent station is now a CBS affiliate and KSTW Tacoma/Seattle formerly listed as a CBS affiliate is now an independent station.
3.  Both signals currently appear on the Lists of Eligible Satellite Services. KSTW appears in Section A of the List of Part 2 Eligible satellite services and KIRO-TV appears in section B. As part of its application, Cancom has requested that KIRO-TV be moved to Section A and KSTW to Section B. Cancom also requested that the change of affiliation be reflected on the Part 3 list.
4.  Bell ExpressVu submitted an intervention in support of this application and pointed out that the DTH list should also be amended to reflect the affiliation change. As a result, corresponding changes have been made to the DTH List.
5. In Public Notice CRTC 1999-166 of today's date entitled Revised Lists of Eligible Satellite Services, the Commission has amended the lists to reflect the approval granted herein.
