Decision CRTC 99-393

Ottawa, 30 August 1999
Shaw Radio Ltd.
Brampton, Ontario – 199809860
Application processed by Public Notice CRTC 1999-100 dated 21 June 1999
Licence renewal for CFNY-FM
The Commission renews the broadcasting licence for CFNY-FM Brampton from 1 September 1999 to 31 August 2006, subject to the conditions specified in the licence to be issued.
The licensee’s acquisition of CFNY-FM from Rogers Communications Inc. (Decision CRTC 94-925 dated 19 December 1994), included a benefit of $1,560,000 in direct expenditures and an annual budget of $80,000 to Canadian talent development. The Commission requests that, upon expiry of the five-year benefits term on 19 December 1999, the licensee submit a final report on benefit commitments and Canadian talent development expenditures.
The Commission notes that this licensee is subject to the Employment Equity Act that came into effect on 24 October 1996 (1996 EEA), and therefore files reports concerning employment equity with Human Resources Development Canada. As a result of a consequential amendment to the Broadcasting Act, the Commission no longer has the authority to apply its employment equity policy to any undertaking that is subject to the 1996 EEA.
