NORTHWESTEL INC. - RATE GROUP CONSOLIDATION AND OTHER RATE INITIATIVES

  1. The Commission has received an application under Tariff Notice (TN) 671 from Northwestel Inc. (Northwestel), dated 15 September 1998, proposing local rate group consolidation and other rate initiatives to become effective 1 January 1999.
  2. Northwestel proposes to restructure residential and business local rates by establishing a common rate across its four rate groups. Accordingly, for Rate Groups 1 to 3, the individual residential and business line rates would increase to $20.33 and $38.70 respectively, which are the rates currently paid by customers in Rate Group 4. In addition, a common multi-line business rate of $47.00 would be established for all rate groups.
  3. Northwestel proposes that the revenues generated from the rate group consolidation would be used, in part, to fund other rate initiatives such as long distance promotions and service upgrades.

  5. Copies of Northwestel's applications can be obtained by any interested person upon request directed to Northwestel at the address below.
  6. In a letter of today's date, Northwestel is asked to respond to Commission interrogatories by 13 October 1998.

  8. Northwestel may file any reply comments by 13 November 1998.
  9.
