Decision CRTC 98-152

Fairchild Radio (Vancouver FM) Ltd.

Vancouver, British Columbia - 199716297

Use of SCMO channel - Approved

1. Following Public Notice CRTC 1998-29 dated 26 March 1998, the Commission approves the application by Fairchild Radio (Vancouver FM) Ltd. (Fairchild) to amend the broadcasting licence for CHKG-FM Vancouver, by adding a condition of licence authorizing the licensee to use a Subsidiary Communications Multiplex Operations (SCMO) channel for the purpose of distributing 168 hours per week of ethnic programming in the Korean language.

2. In support of its application, Fairchild contended that the Korean community is underserved and that it intends to address that need. The service will combine music, news, business reports, arts and community information. Overall, a minimum of 50% of the programming will be local.

3. The licensee is expected to adhere to the guidelines set out in the Appendix A to Public Notice CRTC 1989-23 dated 23 March 1989 entitled Services Using the Vertical Blanking Interval (Television) or Subsidiary Communications Multiplex Operation (FM).

This decision is to be appended to the licence.
