ISLAND TEL - TARIFF REVISIONS PROVIDING FOR RESTRUCTURING OF LOCAL SERVICE

1. The Commission has received an application under Tariff Notice 466 (TN 466) from The Island Telephone Company Limited (Island Tel), dated 18 August 1997, for approval of tariff revisions providing for a complete restructuring of local service, proposed to be effective 1 January 1998.
2. Under Island Tel's proposal, Residence rates would be consolidated to a single rate of $20.20 per month, mileage charges for Single Party Service would be eliminated, Single Line Business rates for rate groups 2 and 3 would be consolidated to a single rate of $45.00 per month, Multi Line Business rates for larger communities would be consolidated to a single rate of $73.40 per month, new core calling areas would be introduced for some exchanges, Two Party Service would be eliminated and Four Party Service would be grandfathered at a single rate of $15.00 per month.
3. The rates for Residence customers proposed under this restructuring do not include the $3.00 per month rate rebalancing proposed by Island Tel to be effective 1 January 1998.
4. Island Tel's application may be examined at any of the company's business offices or at the offices of the CRTC in the following locations:

5. Copies of Island Tel's application can be obtained by interested persons upon request directed to Island Tel at the address shown below.
6. The Commission has addressed interrogatories to Island Tel. Responses to the Commission's interrogatories are required to be filed by 1 October 1997.

8. Island Tel may file any reply comments by 12 November 1997.
9.
