Telecom Order

Ottawa, 2 October 1997
Telecom Order CRTC 97-1408
On 30 May 1997, The New Brunswick Telephone Company, Limited (NBTel) filed an ex parte application under Tariff Notice (TN) 646, for approval of a promotional offer to residence customers who select the company as their Primary Interexchange Carrier. NBTel amended its application on 31 July 1997 under TN 646A.
File No.: Tariff Notice 646
1. On 2 July 1997, the Commission directed NBTel to place an abridged version of the application on the public record as it considered it inappropriate to proceed with the application on an ex parte basis.
2. The Commission granted TN 646 interim approval on 14 July 1997 under Telecom Order CRTC 97-965.
3. On 31 July 1997 NBTel filed TN 646A requesting that the promotion be extended.
4. The Commission notes that under the promotion proposed under TNs 646/A residential customers who have selected NBTel as their Primary Interexchange Carrier and who subscribe to NBTel Internet Access Service will receive Call Answer Service or other optional calling features for two months free of charge.
5. The Commission notes that in Telecom Order CRTC 97-1345 dated 22 September 1997, it determined that, at this time, the bundling of local optional services with toll services provided an undue advantage to the Stentor owner companies.
6. The Commission considers that given the circumstances associated with the promotion it would be inappropriate to order NBTel to take corrective action.
7. In light of the foregoing the Commission denies TNs 646 and 646A.
