Decision

Ottawa, 6 February 1997
Decision CRTC 97-47
Réseau des Appalaches (FM) ltée
Thetford Mines/Victoriaville, Quebec - 199609674
Licence amendment for CFJO-FM
Following a Public Hearing held in Montréal beginning on 2 December 1996, the Commission approves the application to amend the broadcasting licence for CFJO-FM Thetford Mines/Victoriaville by increasing the effective radiated power from 16,600 watts to 100,000 watts and by changing the frequency from 103.3 MHz (channel 277B) to 97.3 MHz (channel 247C1).
The licensee states that these changes will improve the quality of the signal at Thetford Mines, Victoriaville and surrounding areas.
The Commission notes that the contours of CFJO-FM will be increased as a result of these changes. Therefore, the Commission authorizes the licensee to operate the undertaking on the basis of the contours and particulars resulting from the above-mentioned changes.
The Department of Industry has advised the Commission that this application is conditionally technically acceptable, and that a Broadcasting Certificate will only be issued once it has been determined that the proposed technical parameters will not create any unacceptable interference with aeronautical NAV/COM services.
In accordance with subsection 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, the Commission will only issue the licence amendment, and the authority will only be granted, at such time as written notification is received from the Department of Industry that its technical requirements have been met, and that a Broadcasting Certificate will be issued.
The Commission acknowledges the opposing intervention submitted by Courrier Frontenac inc. and it is satisfied with the licensee's reply thereto.
This decision is to be appended to the licence.
Allan J. Darling
Secretary General
