Decision

Ottawa, 28 May 1997
Decision CRTC 97-229
March for Jesus
Across Canada - 199701389
Licence for special events
1. Following a Public Hearing in Toronto beginning on 26 May 1997, the Commission approves the application for a broadcasting licence for a primarily English-language FM radio programming undertaking at locations across Canada, to broadcast non-commercial programming associated with the "March for Jesus" for one-day events on or about 31 May 1997, 30 May 1998, 22 May 1999 and 10 June 2000.
2. The Commission will issue a licence in effect only for the duration of each event, with an expiry date of 30 June 2000, subject to the conditions specified in the licence to be issued. Material broadcast will include opening and closing ceremonies, as well as a pre-recorded music/lyric script during the march and will allow those attending a March for Jesus a better appreciation of the event.
3. The undertaking will operate on the frequencies and powers as certified by the Department of Industry. The frequencies approved by the Department of Industry are low-power unprotected frequencies. Accordingly, the licensee would have to select other frequencies should optimum utilization of the broadcasting spectrum so require.
4. The Department of Industry has advised the Commission that this application is conditionally technically acceptable, and that Broadcasting Certificates will only be issued once it has been determined that the proposed technical parameters will not create any unacceptable interference with aeronautical NAV/COM services.
5. In accordance with subsection 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, the Commission will only issue the licence, and the authority will only be granted, at such time as written notification is received from the Department of Industry that its technical requirements have been met, and that Broadcasting Certificates will be issued.
This decision is to be appended to the licence
