Decision CRTC 96-44

Canadian Broadcasting Corporation

Matane, Causapscal and Lac-au-Saumon, Quebec - 950947200

 Addition of a transmitter

Following Public Notice CRTC 1995-202 dated 28 November 1995, the Commission approves the application to amend the broadcasting licence for the radio programming undertaking CBGA Matane (the originating station), by authorizing the licensee to add an FM mono transmitter at Lac-au-Saumon, operating on frequency 97.5 MHz (channel 248B) with an effective radiated power of 1,690 watts.

The applicant has indicated that the new transmitter will provide a better quality signal and will reach all of the communities in the area. The Commission notes that the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation intends to shut down its AM transmitter CBGA-4 Causapscal within twelve months of the date on which the new transmitter becomes operational.

The Department of Industry has advised the Commission that this application is conditionally technically acceptable, and that a Broadcasting Certificate will only be issued once it has been determined that the proposed technical parameters will not create any unacceptable interference with aeronautical NAV/COM services.

In accordance with subsection 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, the Commission will only issue the licence amendment and the authority will only be granted at such time as written notification is received from the Department of Industry that its technical requirements have been met, and that a Broadcasting Certificate will be issued.
