Decision

Ottawa, 6 July 1995
Decision CRTC 95-381
Bonavista Cablevision Limited
Bonavista, Spillars Cove, Elliston and surrounding areas; Catalina, Little Catalina, Port Union and Melrose, Newfoundland - 940775000 - 940776800
Licence renewals
Following Public Notice CRTC 1995-10 dated 20 January 1995, the Commission renews the licences held by Bonavista Cablevision Limited for the cable distribution undertakings serving the communities noted above, from 1 September 1995 to 31 August 2000.
The licence term granted herein, while less than the maximum of seven years permitted by the Broadcasting Act, will enable the Commission to consider the next licence renewal of this undertaking in accordance with the Commission's regional plan and to better distribute the workload within the Commission. This term is not reflective of any Commission concern regarding the licensee's performance.
The operation of these undertakings is regulated pursuant to Parts I and III of the Cable Television Regulations, 1986 and the licences will be subject to the conditions in effect under the current licences, as well as to those conditions specified in this decision and in the licences to be issued.
The licensee is authorized, by condition of licence, to continue to distribute the programming service of the Atlantic Satellite Network (ASN), received via satellite, provided that it is distributed on an unrestricted channel of the basic service of each undertaking.
The licensee is authorized to continue to distribute CHAN-TV Vancouver subject to the requirement stipulated in Public Notice CRTC 1995-8 dated 19 January 1995 entitled "Revised Lists of Eligible Satellite Services" that it delete duplicate programming from the CHAN-TV service or substitute the local signal of CJWB-TV Bonavista when the programming is identical.
In Public Notice CRTC 1992-59 dated 1 September 1992 and entitled "Implementation of an Employment Equity Policy", the Commission announced that the employment equity practices of broadcasters would be subject to examination by the Commission. In this regard, the Commission encourages the licensee to consider employment equity issues in its hiring practices and in all other aspects of its management of human resources.
