Telecom Public Notice

Ottawa, 11 January 1991
Telecom Public Notice CRTC 1991-7
BRITISH COLUMBIA TELEPHONE COMPANY -INCORPORATION OF TOUCH CALLING INTO BASIC EXCHANGE SERVICE
Reference: Tariff Notice 2240
The Commission has received an application from British Columbia Telephone Company (B.C. Tel), dated 19 November 1990, proposing the provision of Touch Calling as part of basic service to all residence and business individual, overline, two-party, four-party, multi-party and measured service customers, where facilities permit. The company proposes to eliminate the Touch Calling surcharge and to increase exchange service rates by $.90 for residence services and by $1.90 for business services (excluding PBX and Information System Access services). Where facilities are not currently available to offer Touch Calling, customers will be credited monthly with an amount equal to the increase in exchange service rates.
B.C. Tel states that, upon approval of Tariff Notice 2240, it will apply to the Commission for permission to make rotary dial telephone sets unavailable for new installations, to no longer repair leased rotary dial sets, and to bring the rates for both Touch Calling and rotary dial sets to the same level.
By letter dated 6 December 1990, the Commission directed B.C. Tel to provide notice of its application to all subscribers that might be affected by it.
In support of its application, B.C. Tel has submitted economic information for which it has claimed confidentiality. It has also submitted an abridged version of this information for the public record.
The Commission has addressed interrogatories to B.C. Tel in connection with its application. The company has been directed to file its responses by 18 February 1991.
The application may be examined at any of the company's business offices or at the offices of the CRTC, Room 201, Central Building, Les Terrasses de la Chaudière, 1 Promenade du Portage, Hull, Quebec, or 800 Burrard Street, Suite 1380, Vancouver, British Columbia. A copy of the application and of the company's responses to the Commission's interrogatories may be obtained by any interested person upon request directed to the company at the address shown below.
If you wish to comment on the application, please write to Mr. Allan J. Darling, Secretary General, CRTC, Ottawa, Ontario, K1A 0N2, by 18 March 1991. A copy of your letter should be sent to Ms. D.E.
